What kind of help will you receive from us?
What makes Mommy-Muse therapy more powerful than most choices?
It's the counselors themselves, Linda Semrau, M.A. and Christy Cuellar-Wentz, M.A. Studies have shown that the personality and character of the therapist is as important as her training or the methods of therapy she uses. At Mommy-Muse we offer you unconditional acceptance, interest in what you have to say, empathy, highly developed intuition, and a great deal of knowledge and know-how regarding the problems common to new moms. New moms often experience their negative feelings and symptoms as self. Your symptoms are not you; they are not who you are. And they are 100% treatable. We guarantee you a secure and welcoming climate in which to express yourself, understand what is happening to you, problem solve, and allow your symptoms to safely disappear. Our focus is to help you feel balanced and secure in your life with your baby as quickly as possible.
We understand that it can be difficult to ask for help, and want you to know this: asking for help comes from strength, not from weakness. It is completely okay for you to ask for our help.
We are trained in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Time Line Therapy®, Transactional Analysis, Holodynamics, Family Constellations, Gestalt Therapy and hypnotherapy.
The new mother is expected to make
the most dramatic changes of her life almost instantly -
. . . and to automatically do so while she is exhausted,
fragile, anxious, possibly dealing with postpartum depression or
baby blues, full of self-doubt, and struggling to live in the
twilight zone known as Baby Time.
Since our society fails to acknowledge this reality, family and friends are often confused about what the new mother is supposed to do and feel, and don't know how best to help her. One prominent false belief is that by the time a birth mother has her postpartum 6-week checkup, she has managed to complete her adjustment - both physically and emotionally - to motherhood. Another misconception is that adoptive mothers and stepmothers are likely to feel comfortable and happy in their new role right away, since they are not physically postpartum.
In truth, adaptation to motherhood often takes 24 months or longer. Each time.
